Abandon Ship?

I don't usually pledge my allegiances in my blogs, but I want to go ahead and get this out of the way just so you know where I'm coming from.

I'm a fan of sports. I have always loved them since I was a little boy. It took me forever to choose a favorite football team. I was once a Chicago Bears fan...or at least I thought I was. I used to like the San Diego Chargers. I even had love at one point for the Carolina Panthers. Yeah, I said it.

These days...well since about 1997, I have been a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. Loved watching guys like Warrick Dunn, Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, John Lynch and a host of other guys. So, needless to say, it brought me great joy to see them win a Super Bowl in 2001. Since then, the guys haven't been the same.

These days, they really haven't shown much improvement going 0-4 and being the soap opera of the NFL. With all the leaks that were released about former quarterback Josh Freeman and his ADHD issues along with other "in-house" business, the Buccaneers have too many issues that need to be resolved.

Granted, this wouldn't be much of an issue if the team wasn't 0-4. In three of their four games, the Bucs have lost by a field goal. Three points or less. While they seem to be right there based on the final scores, Greg Schiano's team isn't where they need to be offensively. They average 11 points per game and that's only better than the Jacksonville Jaguars. Plus, the Bucs are sixth in penalty yards on offense. Something has got to change.

Obviously, Josh Freeman is gone. So, he can't be blamed any more. But Schiano has to do something to help this offense get going so the Bucs can win some games. I'm not saying I'm completely there yet, but I'm just about ready to abandon ship as far as this season is concerned. I am certain that Tampa will not make the playoffs, but I would at least like to see the guys show some fight on offense. There has to be some discipline and some changes so that we can execute more effectively.

I don't know about any of the other fans, but I'm glad the whole Josh Freeman saga is over. At the same time, I do believe that Greg Schiano will certainly have to go if the Bucs don't win more than six games this year.
