Bad Basketball in Brooklyn

Before I get started, I would like to address the Philadelphia 76ers and what I thought would be an exciting team.

I would like to apologize for either being wrong or jinxing the team.  My entry on the Sixers in The Armchair Quarterback came on November 15. Since that day, they've only won two of their last 10. For you non-math majors out there, that is a .200 winning percentage in your last 10 games...and that, ladies and gentlemen, is unacceptable.

But you know what else is unacceptable. All of the records in the NBA's Atlantic Division are unacceptable. I can't remember a time where NOBODY was over the .500 mark. Not one team is .over 500. As it stands, the Boston Celtics (clears throat...my Boston Celtics) are in first. Now while that's all nice and it's a decent feel-good moment for Brad Stevens and the crew, they're still 7-12. They're at the top of the Atlantic at 7-12.

But they're really not the group that I want to target. This blog's target is the Brooklyn Nets.

Yeah, the boys in the Barclays Center are struggling. Yeah, I know everybody else is, too. But these guys were supposed to be one of the handful of teams that were going to take down the defending NBA champion Miami Heat. But alas, the Nets have done nothing but "Let Nas Down"...in fact, they've let their fan base down and a few other people to boot.

The Nets are 5-13 and the only team that is below them are the New York Knicks and we're not talking about them in this entry. Maybe later this month. Jason Kidd is going to have to get these guys on the right track without the services of Paul Pierce (broken hand) or assistant coach Lawrence Frank ("reassigned" by Kidd). For those of you keeping up with Nets history at home, that's the same Lawrence Frank that coached Kidd in New Jersey...the same Lawrence Frank that helped the Nets get to the finals in 2002 and 2003 as an assistant. Now, Frank has been banished from the bench.

Listen, I know things are bad...but whatever the problem with Frank and Kidd may be, it's not helping the Nets at this time. I don't know if "relieving" Frank of bench duty is going to help his team. Something has to give. If I had to guess, it wouldn't surprise me if Kidd returns next season. I know it's still early, but Kidd really hasn't shown himself worthy of being a head coach. Great point guards don't always make great head coaches.
