NBA to Investigate Donald Sterling Comments

Donald Sterling has some explaining to do.

Following a report from TMZ providing audio of a conversation between the Los Angeles Clippers owner and his bi-racial girlfriend, the NBA will now launch an investigation regarding the matter.

I had a chance to listen to the audio and it's pretty disturbing. Sterling basically tells his half-black, half-Mexican girlfriend that he doesn't want her "love black people privately" and to not broadcast what she does with them via social media. He later told her that he doesn't want her taking pictures with NBA legend, former Los Angeles Laker Earvin "Magic" Johnson and he doesn't want her to bring black people to his games.

The ugly head of racism has appeared once again in the form of Donald Sterling. It's disheartening that the league has to deal with something like this...especially at a time where interest in the NBA is at a peak. If I'm Adam Silver, I'm bringing the hammer down on Sterling. His comments are truly unbecoming of an NBA executive and, as Magic Johnson noted, "a black eye" to the league. You're not going to change Sterling, but you have to send the message that, as a front office guy, you have to be more respectful of how you operate inside and outside of your office.

Reportedly, the Clippers are mad...and rightfully so. While I do expect them to play through this, I could completely understand if they decided to, I don't know, tank in their series against Golden State. The league deserves moments than this. The fans and the players deserve better and that young lady certainly deserves better.
