I really thought about my last post and said, "Maybe I rushed to judgment on Cam Newton. Maybe I was a little too quick on the draw." So, I waited until he and the rest of the Panthers got home. And I'm glad I did.
Two days removed from Super Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos, the NFL MVP addressed the media for the first time since walking out midway through his news conference in Santa Clara. The clip of Newton's sudden departure went viral and yielded a ton of different opinions about his behavior.
Fast forward to Tuesday.

"I have been on record to say that I am a sore loser. Who likes to lose?" Newton told reporters. "You show me a good loser and I am going to show you a loser. This is not a popularity contest. I am here to win football games."
Essentially, there was no apology from Newton about his actions and he wanted to make sure that point got across.
"I don't have to conform to anybody else's wants for me to do. I am not that guy," Newton said. "If you want me to be this type of person, I am not that and I am happy to say that."
Cam Newton is a great player. We all know that. But Cam's gonna Cam. In other words, you can expect the 26-year-old quarterback to continue to exude that adolescent enthusism each and every time he takes the field. But you can also expect Newton not to be the best interview following a loss. You're not gonna get much out of him. So, heaven forbid the Panthers have a Super Bowl hangover. If so, we'll be back to seeing salty Cam a lot more often and maybe seeing more editorial cartoons like this.
If Cam's your guy, cool. I understand that he's done so much for the community and that's all well and good, too. But if you're going to be the complete package as a pro athlete, you've got to learn how to #KeepPounding in the face of adversity.
