The Golden State Warriors fired head coach Mark Jackson today...and they've made a huge mistake by doing so.
In three years, Jackson has taken the Warriors from not making the playoffs to nearly knocking off the Los Angeles Clippers and advancing to the Western Conference Semifinals. Jackson has managed to do wonders with a team that wasn't expected to do much outside of Stephen Curry lighting up the scoreboard. But that's not the case. Jackson elevated the Warriors to a place that, I'd be willing to bet, no coach currently in the NBA could take them.
I said it.

So, now the Warriors are searching for a coach. Guys like George Karl, Tom Thibodeau and others will be waiting in the wings for the opportunity to take the role, but Mark Jackson shouldn't have to wait around long for a job. The Knicks and the Lakers have openings that Jackson could fill making fans very happy. But if a team needs to make a splash more than anyone else in the league, it's the Knicks.

I know that Phil Jackson has already been in contact with Steve Kerr and it looks like they may have their man, but Jackson would easily be a fan favorite and he could be the key to keeping Carmelo Anthony around New York. The Knicks need to have a coach that the players can believe in. Kerr has no coaching experience, but he knows Phil Jackson's triangle system. Mark Jackson, on the other hand, has history with the Knicks. He knows what the expectations are. He could easily come in and turn this team around. But that's not going to happen. Look for the Lakers to hire Jackson.
