Texas Dismissals Raise Questions of Behavior Issues vs. Coaching Philosophy

Charlie Strong dismissed offensive tackle Kennedy Estelle from the Texas Longhorns football program for reasons not disclosed to reporters.
Just 24 hours ago, the new Longhorns head coach told the media that the junior offensive lineman would likely return to practice. However, Strong went on to tell reporters on Tuesday that something "popped up" in the last 24 hours that made him reconsider the player's standing with the team. Estelle was previously suspended, according to reports, for being academically ineligible for the Alamo Bowl.

The dismissal is the ninth this year for Texas. Somewhere, that has to raise a red (or burnt orange) flag about what's going on in Austin.

Nine dismissals is a lot for any team. While I'm not sure what completely warrants such action or even if such action was warranted for any of these players, one has to look at this situation and, at the very least, wonder what the deal really is.

If you have that many behavioral issues on a team, it would have made since for the previous coach (Mack Brown) and his staff to deal with these issues...unless they weren't issues at all. If that's the case, one has to wonder if Strong is being a little too strong with the power he holds in regards to this program.

It may be worth looking into. After all, you've only got so many players available to play on Saturdays before you start handing out pads to students in the stands.
