Royals look to dethrone new baseball monarchy

A while back, when Bud Selig opted to have the winning team of the All-Star Game come away with home field advantage for the World Series, I'd joke about how the Kansas City Royals would have a shot at hosting the first two games of the series.

It's not a joke anymore.

Ned Yost and company have simply been a buzzsaw this postseason tearing through every opponent that has been in their path. Honestly, why should baseball fans have expected any less? The Royals haven't been to the World Series in 29 years. With the likes of Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, James Shields and Jason Vargas, the Royals have come a long way with the league's 19th largest payroll.

If this doesn't have Cinderella story written all over it, I don't know what does. This team is clearly a sentimental favorite to win the Series, but they'll have to beat a team that has made three trips to the World Series in the last five years.

Don't look now, but the San Francisco Giants have essentially built a team made to go after championships for years to come. Bruce Bochy's young squad led by all-star catcher Buster Posey and hurler Madison Bumgarner comes into this championship series, on paper, as the favorite due to their past experiences despite not having home field advantage.

Still, both teams are fairly young teams that are hungry to win a title. It's hard to go against the Royals, but I've got to side with the players with experience. The Giants know how to win on the biggest stage baseball has to offer. It won't be easy for them, but I got San Fran winning in six.
